|To our fellow alumni of Alpha Theta/Theta Chi:
As you may be aware, we have come through a very trying and emotional time with the conviction of Bruce McAllister D’54 T'58 for embezzling the funds we had set aside to begin to pay down the debts from our college-mandated renovations. We won’t rehash the details of what has transpired – you have all read and heard most of the gory details at this point. What we will do, however, is ask you to consider this question: What do we do now?
Almost seven years ago, you all came together and committed to ensuring that we would continue to show "strength through unity in diversity." You did this by raising half of our 10-year capital campaign goal in three short years. And we are going to ask you to step up again to ensure that those students who follow in your footsteps will have an opportunity to become part of the nurturing, inclusive community that is so important to our own college memories. Remember: while "time and distance may come between us, our home shall always be Alpha Theta."
Dartmouth College has offered us a tremendous opportunity by generously pledging to match any gifts to the house over the next five years up to a total of $75,000. In other words, every single dollar you give to the Alpha Theta House Corporation is now worth two. This is a great chance to leverage your giving and really help to make a difference as we re-launch our capital campaign with the goal of raising $400,000 over the next ten years to eliminate our debt and secure the house’s financial future.
In the weeks ahead, you will receive an email asking you to make a commitment to make a gift to the Alpha Theta House Corporation over three years. We hope you will consider this outreach very carefully and that you will choose to pledge your support to ensure that we can emerge from these difficult times strong and secure in the future of Alpha Theta.
